Project GM64
A downloadable project for Windows
This project involved creating a framework in GameMaker Studio designed for the development of 3D third-person action RPGs with low-poly aesthetics. The framework provided a suite of innovative features and runtime tools, enabling developers to build engaging gameplay experiences with minimal technical overhead.
The project is far from finished but it was a fun challenge pushing GameMaker Studio's capabilities in terms of 3D.
NOTE: This project is unfinished, canceled, and not available for download. The file included is of a single prototype using the framework.
Key features of the framework included:
3D Movement and Navigation: A versatile movement system supporting platforming mechanics, wall hanging, and responsive character control for navigating diverse environments.
Combat System with Precision and Depth:
- Hitbox-Based Melee and Ranged Combat: Customizable hitboxes for accurate detection of attacks and interactions, ensuring dynamic and fair combat mechanics.
- Limb Damage System: A targeted damage mechanic allowing specific limbs or body parts to take damage. This system introduced strategic depth to combat, affecting enemy behaviors or player abilities based on where damage was inflicted.
Dynamic Camera System: A robust camera controller adapting to combat, platforming, and exploration scenarios with smooth transitions and cinematic effects.
Level Design System: A built-in, runtime level editor enabling developers to design, modify, and test environments directly within the engine, streamlining the iteration process.
Custom Runtime Animator: A real-time animation tool supporting seamless transitions, blending, and low-poly animation styles, reducing reliance on external software.
Platforming Mechanics: Advanced features like ledge grabbing, wall hanging, and dynamic collision handling, enhancing environmental interaction and player engagement.
